I have always struggled with my weight and along with that with my self esteem. I grew up with a sister who was a year younger than me who was very naturally thin. I could never understand why my body did not work the way hers did. She is caring for her completely disabled, unable to do much of anything for himself, husband. They refuse all offers of help or any outside help (home health aides, in home therapy, respite care, etc.) and expect my cousin to do *everything* despite the fact that she has a family of her own, and they have four children, not just her. There is such a bad dynamic.

For my full marathon in 2004 I had Achilles tendinitis in my other ankle so was in some amount of pain for 26.2 miles. And my 2006 half was more of a run/walk since I ran with a friend who had to keep stopping to stretch her quad (which was injured). I stopped with her every time to be supportive.
The bottom line is that if I had been told, or more importantly taught that the reason I needed to skip eating that Oreo was because it wasn good for my body and not because I would get fat (since I already was in my opinion), then I might have been more apt to make healthier choices. Certainly, we know much more about processed foods and how the body works now than we did 25 years ago, which makes these discussions easier to have with our own children. When my children ask why they can have sugary drinks or loads of sweets, I tell them it is because those foods have things in them that aren good for their bodies.

I still have 5.5 lbs to lose by the end of October, or I'll have to pay WW fees, so hopefully I can pull it off. It's not going to be easy, especially because I am having some pain in my right leg.
